Engr. Umotoy, a 1975 Mapúa Electrical Engineering graduate, built a distinguished career in the United States as a pioneer in semiconductor and solar technologies. After beginning his career at PLDT, he migrated to California in 1976, later joining Applied Materials, Inc., where he contributed to the development of state-of-the-art semiconductor equipment for CVD and ALD processes. Over the years, he earned recognition as part of 44 approved U.S. patents, authored multiple technical papers, and rose to Director of Engineering, leading product development and research in semiconductor and solar panel manufacturing.
In 2010, he co-founded SIORAH, Inc., where he directed engineering for innovative MOCVD reactor systems, filing additional patents and expanding his impact in advanced semiconductor equipment. He later took on a senior leadership role in Shanghai, developing LED manufacturing equipment and preparing nine more patent applications. With a career spanning decades of innovation, leadership, and global contributions, Engr. Umotoy retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of engineering excellence in both semiconductors and renewable energy.
