His Story

Laurence Chan, a Mapúa graduate in Electronics, Communications, and Electrical Engineering, rose from humble beginnings to become a visionary leader in engineering, technology, and business. Starting as a field and design engineer, he advanced to key leadership roles at Ericsson and later Emerson, where he pioneered telecom power solutions and renewable energy projects, including the Philippines’ first off-grid solar telecom system. As Managing Director of Emerson Network Power and later Senior Vice President at Accent Micro Technologies, he drove growth in IT managed services, data center, and engineering solutions.

Beyond his corporate achievements, he played a pivotal role in formalizing the Mapúa Electrical Engineering Alumni Association, serving as its president and now as adviser. With over 25 years of expertise in power systems, renewable energy, and business management, Laurence is recognized for his innovation, resilience, and lasting contributions to both industry and community.

Achievements

  • Graduated with BS in Electronics & Communications Engineering (1987) and BS in Electrical Engineering (1988) from Mapúa Institute of Technology.
  • Passed the Assistant Electrical Engineer Board Exam (1990).
  • Designed and implemented Ericsson’s first Off-Grid Solar Project in the Philippines (1998).
  • Successfully established and expanded Emerson Network Power (Phils.), Inc., achieving consistent growth (2001–2007).
  • Expanded AMTI’s IT Managed Services portfolio, later overseeing Data Center and MEPF Solutions.
  • Served as President of the Mapúa Electrical Engineer Association, Inc. (2018) and led its formal SEC registration as a non-stock, non-profit alumni organization.
