1st Alamat ng Mapúa
Engr. Rafael F. Florentino
Engr. Rafael F. Florentino graduated with the highest honors in Electrical Engineering from Mapúa Institute of Technology in 1948, receiving the President’s Scholarship Medal. He went on to top the 1949 Board Exam for Assistant Electrical Engineers, rank first in the 1951 Civil Service Exam, and secure second place in the 1956 Professional Board Examination for Electrical Engineers. His career at the National Power Corporation (NPC) spanned 36 years, where he rose from Cadet Engineer to Assistant to the President, shaping power planning, system programming, and regional operations. As part of the “Magic 87,” he received extensive training from Meralco, equipping him to hold critical technical leadership roles within NPC.
Beyond NPC, Engr. Florentino made lasting contributions as an educator at Mapúa Institute of Technology, where he earned recognition for faculty excellence over seven consecutive years until 1978. His leadership extended to professional organizations, serving as President of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers and as Chairman of the Board of Electrical Engineering. In 1999, the Professional Regulation Commission honored him as an Outstanding Electrical Engineer for his remarkable achievements in energy, education, and professional service, cementing his legacy as one of the nation’s most distinguished engineers.
