MEEAA

History

1997

In December 1997, Dean Masil announced a general assembly for EE, ECE, and COE graduates, which Huberto Bobby Agoncillo attended, initiating his active participation in the alumni association. During this assembly, new officers for 1997- 1998 were elected, including President Engr. Olegario Serafica, with advisers Engrs Ben Frayco, Gregorio Sadorra, and Dean Masil.

After the 1997-1998 officers were elected, the group started having monthly meetings to plan their first homecoming. One of the important agenda items was to decide on a name for their organization. They eventually voted for the name "Mapua Institute of Technology Electrical Engineering Alumni Association" (MITEEAA) from a list of 3 or 4 suggested names.

1999

The 2nd Homecoming happened on June 19,1999 with the theme "MIT and MITEEAA: Reenergized Together." MITEEAA honored its first awardees for excellence in their respective fields of endeavor.

MITEEAA honored their first group of distinguished alumni for their excellence in their respective fields. The complete list can be found in the annual homecoming souvenir program. Additionally, Ben Frayco, also known as Tito Ben", mentioned that graduates from the ECECOE program were invited to the assembly, but unfortunately, no one from the school attended. It was during Dean Tablante's tenure that the officers and directors visited the EE-ECE-COE department to encourage graduates to join the alumni association. They even proposed naming their group the MITEEECECOE Alumni Association, but this idea did not come to fruition. This story was shared with Huberto Bobby Agoncillo, the narrator, by Engr. Tito Ben Yebah Frayco when he was elected as director.

Our late Dean Rodrigo Masil played a pivotal role in founding the EE-ECE-COE Alumni Association. During a gathering, an alumnus from the CHE-Chem department asked why our school had never hosted homecomings. This question inspired Dean Masil to engage the active alumni, leading to the establishment of our association and a celebration of our shared legacy.

In March 1991, the organization was founded with the following officers: President Engr. Meleusipo E. Fonollera, 1st Vice President Engr. Carbonel, 2nd Vice President Engr. WKKC Tan, Secretary Engr. Sugay, Auditor Engr. Fragante, and Business Manager Engr. Lirio Jimenez. The Board included Engrs R. Delacruz, J. Enriquez, J. Kho, R. Javate, J. Jurado, R. Ramos, and G. Sadorra, advised by Engrs Conrado Del Rosario, Salvador Dulog, and Dean Rodrigo Masil. This leadership remained in place until March 1995, after which new officers were elected, though no homecoming was held.
